Orbitrol hydraulic motor: when should it be used?
What role does the hydraulic motor play?
The hydraulic motor is there to transform a flow into rotation speed and a pressure into operating torque.
The speed of rotation of the motor is proportional to the flow that feeds it, and the torque delivered by the motor to the pressure it withstands.
When should an Orbitrol motor be used?
The Orbitrol hydraulic motor is an oil-powered system. It is mainly used for power steering systems in cars and recent vehicles, but also for hydraulic lift systems in modern tractors. This motor is connected to the steering column and is operated by the steering wheel.
What is the role of the safety block?
The relief valve is a valve that is calibrated to open in the event of excess pressure in the supply line, for example at the end stop or if too much force is applied (wheel against a wall, for example), thus preventing damage to the pump. This is what makes the "tssss" sound when the steering wheel is forced.
Not all hydraulic steering circuits on self-propelled agricultural vehicles have this feature
What does "open centre - non load reaction" mean?
Open centre means that the distribution spool is in neutral, creating a diversion of the oil arriving from the direct pump to the reservoir, and the steering cylinder is stationary.
How it works: When the steering wheel is turned to the right, for example, springs inside the distributor move it, and depending on the number of revolutions, the metering element sends out a certain quantity of oil.
In the event of a hydraulic failure, it is "difficult" to turn the wheels, the orbitrol turns in a closed circuit, and the return oil goes back into the metering element.
Otherwise, you can add: Orbitrol is the name given to this type of distributor by the hydraulic counter, it is actually called a rotary distributor or steering motor
The orbitrol is basically made up of two elements:
The metering element and the distributor.
On the orbitrol, there are 4 hoses that run from it: Pump, Reservoir (return), left and right.
Themetering element: This has a certain displacement and acts as a pump, sending the oil from the pump to the distributor.
The distributor: This directs the oil to one side of the cylinder or the other
