        In a system, hydraulic directional valves, also known as pre-actuators, control the direction of fluid in the system. By definition, a directional valve has at least 2 positions. Depending on the position, selected manually, mechanically, electrically or hydraulically, the directional valve directs the force of the hydraulic fluid towards the desired action. This is achieved by operating a spool, the right or left-hand movement of which causes ports to communicate.
